A historic city that is still part of the British Commonwealth, Nassau is the largest in the Bahamas and its center of tourism as well. This is a hugely popular stop for cruise ships, with spaces for 7 at a time, so at any given moment the crowd in town is likely to be cruise passengers.
English is the official and dominant language so the Nassau area is very popular with Americans, Canadians, and Brits. There is diving, snorkeling, sailing and other water sports available, but Nassau is just as well known for shopping and active nightlife. This is a major Spring Break party spot during March and April since it’s so easy to reach from so many cities.
There are a few cheaper places in the Nassau area, but mostly this is a mid-range destination for the Caribbean, with some notable high-end resorts and restaurants mixed in.

If you’ve ever traveled to south Florida, then you’ll know exactly what to expect in the Bahamas. Nassau, located right next to Florida, is considered subtropical. This means that you’ll find pleasant weather throughout the year with mild winters and warmer summers.
Summers do see rain showers, but they tend to come and go quickly, allowing you to finish your daily plans without much interruption. Sometimes however, you will experience a full day of rain.
Winter highs are normally pretty manageable with nights occasionally dropping down into the 40s.

There are around 50 hotels and resorts in the Nassau area, with most of them located in the Cable Beach area or on Paradise Island. Most prices are in the mid-range for the Caribbean, but there are several very luxurious resorts as well, most notably the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort. The all-inclusive resorts aren’t nearly as cheap as they are in the Dominican Republic or Jamaica, but you can get some great packages for long weekends.
Especially outside of peak season it’s worth looking at Atlantis, Paradise Island deals and specials, which can be up to 40% off.

If you decide to visit, you’ll find a pretty nice selection of hotels to choose from. You’ll also find that the time of year you choose to visit greatly determines how much you’ll pay during your stay.
If you visit during the winter months, otherwise known as peak season, you’ll be greeted with higher prices for not only your hotel stay, but plane tickets as well. If you decide you want to still visit, but save some money, plan to travel during the off season. The off season covers the summer months into early fall. This time of year is also hurricane season. So although you will be paying lower prices, you’ll be risking the chance of visiting during a storm or visiting when some restaurants and hotels are closed.
In order to avoid the high prices and the stormy days, consider a visit during early December or the month of May when prices tend to average out yet you’re still greeted with that tropical sunshine you’ve been dreaming of.
