Taking up most of the western shore of Jamaica, Negril is a large resort area that still feels mostly undeveloped compared to its neighbor, Montego Bay. Unlike Montego Bay, the town of Negril is actually tiny, and most people stay along the 7-Mile Beach stretch just to its north, or along the cliffs to its south. If you want to visit a resort area in Jamaica instead of just one all-inclusive resort, then Negril is the ideal choice because the beach is lined with restaurants, bars, shops, and even a few clubs.

There are well over 100 hotels and resorts along the long stretch of sand that qualifies as the greater Negril area. In the north you’ll find mostly large and all-inclusive hotels, while in the south there are smaller hotels and many independent restaurants and shops. Negril is certainly one of the cheapest Caribbean island destinations for resort-goers, and cheap flights from all over add to its appeal.
When it comes to all-inclusive resorts, Negril has mostly mid-range and upper-range resorts, offering great value for those who can afford them.
Spring break, major holidays and wintertime are known for having higher hotel prices as well as playing host to larger crowds of both locals and visitors alike. If you rather vacation against the grain, you’ll be rewarded with lower hotel rates. Summer is the best time to visit if you wish to budget.

Being a noted Spring Break destination, you’ll find lots of bars, restaurants, shops, and a few night clubs stretching along the beach, making Negril a great choice if you’re looking to do a lot within a few days. In addition to the large amount of beach attractions, there are several different boating excursions to choose from, scuba diving, and cliff-diving.
Though you’ll find lots of great tour and activity options in Negril, it’s easy to say that the local catamaran cruise tours reign king. Horseback rides are also very popular here as well as a day trip to YS Falls, which is about an hour and a half away.

The most common way to get around Negril is with the help of a resort shuttle but you can also use a scooter, bicycle or hire a taxi. There are some visitors who chose to walk around, which is great for short distances and if you decide to walk within the village of Negril, but we wouldn’t recommend walking from one end of the 7-Mile Beach to the other.

Located on the northern coast of Jamaica, Negril has great weather year round coupled with inviting warm waters.
Aside from visiting during a hurricane, you really can’t go wrong with a visit any time of the year. Light winds, mild humility and temps in the 80s allow for a great trip.
It’s best to pack light clothing, bathing suits and a few hats if you burn easily.
