27 Best Warm Places to Visit in March in 2026 (Cheap & Great Weather Worldwide)
If you’re looking for a warm, affordable place to travel in March, this list will make it easy. March is one of the most unusual travel months of the year — part spring break, part shoulder season — which means some destinations are at their absolute best while others are jammed with crowds and high prices. Knowing the difference can save you a lot of money.
The good news is that March offers dozens of great-weather options across the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America, Europe’s sunny fringe, the Middle East, and Asia. Most of the cities below are pleasantly warm, fairly dry, and still reasonably priced before the Easter and summer travel rush.
After spending years traveling through and researching each of these destinations for Price of Travel, I’ve picked out the ones that consistently offer the best mix of sunshine, value, and ease of planning. Whether you want beaches, culture, food, or simple winter escape weather, this is where to find it in March.

I recently started making Youtube videos out of the popular articles on this site so you can both read about the different options and see actual footage of them as well. Below is a video with highlights of the best places to visit in March and April.
Best warm and affordable destinations in the Americas in March
March is one of the very best months to visit the Caribbean and Mexico — warm, dry, sunny, and well outside hurricane season. Prices are still reasonable in early March, and even the busier destinations like Cancún and Punta Cana offer excellent value compared to peak winter. These spots combine ideal beach weather with easy access and plenty of affordable hotel options.
Cancun, Mexico
- March avg high: 86°F/30°C
- March avg low: 71°F/22°C
- March avg precip: 2.1″/5.3cm
Cancún is one of the most reliable warm-weather destinations in the world in March. Daytime temperatures hover in the low-80s °F (around 28 °C), humidity is comfortable compared to summer, and rain chances are low. In other words, this is prime beach season, and the weather here is far more pleasant than during the hotter, stormier months later in the year. It’s also one of the easiest places to reach from North America, with dozens of nonstop flights from all over the U.S. and Canada.
One of Cancún’s big advantages is that it works for almost any budget. The Hotel Zone is filled with beachfront resorts in every price range — and if you move just a couple of blocks inland, hotel prices drop dramatically while restaurants and bars get far more affordable as well. I’ve been visiting Cancún for many years, and it’s still one of the easiest places in the Caribbean to have a great trip without spending a fortune. Even better, nearby Isla Mujeres and the ruins at Tulum or Chichén Itzá make excellent and inexpensive day trips.
If you’re after warm sunshine, long beaches, and a destination that’s extremely easy to plan for, Cancún is hard to beat in March. It’s also a great jumping-off point for the rest of the Riviera Maya, including Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Just avoid the college Spring Break hotspots if you prefer quieter beaches — the first week of March is usually calmer, and prices are lower then as well.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
- March avg high: 85°F/29°C
- March avg low: 72°F/22°C
- March avg precip: 1.0″/2.5cm
Punta Cana is another excellent choice for March, with long stretches of calm turquoise water and a huge collection of beachfront all-inclusive resorts. This part of the Dominican Republic is specifically designed for effortless vacations — wide beaches, big pools, and sprawling resorts where everything you need is on-site. March is one of the most reliable months of the year for sunshine here, and the sea conditions are typically ideal for swimming and kayaking.
One thing I’ve always liked about Punta Cana is how clearly the resorts are laid out along the coast. Each section of beach has its own feel, from the very lively Bavaro area to quieter pockets farther north. Prices tend to be a bit lower than in Cancún, especially for all-inclusives, and the overall value is excellent. Even the more upscale properties can be surprisingly affordable compared to similar resorts elsewhere in the Caribbean.
Punta Cana does lack a traditional town center, so it’s not the best pick if you’re hoping for nightlife or local culture just outside your hotel. Still, for people who want an easy, warm, beach-focused holiday with plenty of resort choices, it’s one of the best places in the Caribbean in March. I’ve stayed in several Punta Cana areas over the years, and it consistently delivers exactly what most visitors want — sun, sand, and zero stress.

Montego Bay, Jamaica
- March avg high: 85°F/29°C
- March avg low: 72°F/22°C
- March avg precip: 0.8″/2.0cm
Montego Bay is one of Jamaica’s most convenient beach destinations, with many of the major resorts just a short drive from the airport — a huge plus when you’re trying to maximize a short March getaway. The beaches here are a mix of calm coves and stretches with lively water sports, and March usually brings excellent weather with plenty of sunshine and very little rain. For visitors who want warm Caribbean water and an easy arrival experience, “MoBay” is hard to beat.
What stands out about Montego Bay is how many well-established all-inclusive resorts line this part of the coast, including some of Jamaica’s top luxury picks as well as great mid-range options. It’s also home to the famous “hip strip,” though in reality, most visitors stay within their chosen resort because that’s where the best beaches and amenities are. I’ve visited Montego Bay many times, and while it has a more bustling feel than Negril or Ocho Rios, it’s still a great base — especially for first-time visitors to Jamaica.
Montego Bay also makes it easy to explore other parts of the island. Day trips to Negril, Martha Brae rafting, Dunn’s River Falls, or even Rick’s Café are all doable from here. So if you want a warm, beachy destination with lots of resort variety and some excellent sightseeing options, Montego Bay is a strong March choice — especially if you value convenience.

Los Cabos, Mexico
- March avg high: 80°F/27°C
- March avg low: 56°F/14°C
- March avg precip: 0.1″/0.2cm
Los Cabos is one of the most dramatic warm-weather destinations to visit in March, with rugged desert mountains dropping straight into deep blue water. It’s drier and sunnier than the Caribbean this time of year, which makes it ideal for people who prefer low humidity and crystal-clear sunny days. Unlike Cancún or Punta Cana, Cabo isn’t built around miles of swimmable beaches — but it more than makes up for it with scenery and a huge range of activities.
One thing I always point out is that Cabo is really two destinations in one. Cabo San Lucas is lively and filled with big resorts, marina activities, and nightlife, while San José del Cabo is more relaxed, more charming, and has better boutique hotel options. Most visitors don’t swim in the ocean here because of strong currents, but every resort has a great pool scene, and the swimmable beaches like Médano Beach are excellent when you do want to get into the water.
Cabo is also one of the best places in Mexico for excursions — whale watching in March is often outstanding, and the boat trips to the famous Arch are always worth doing. I’ve visited Cabo many times, and it consistently feels more grown-up and scenic than Mexico’s east coast resorts. If you want warm, dry weather, great food, and dramatic landscapes, Los Cabos is one of the strongest March picks in the Americas.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
- March avg high: 85°F/29°C
- March avg low: 62°F/17°C
- March avg precip: 0.1″/0.3cm
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s most enjoyable beach cities in March, with warm, dry weather and some of the most reliable sunshine of the entire year. Unlike Cancún or Los Cabos, PV combines beaches with a real, lived-in city — complete with a lively malecón, excellent restaurants, local markets, and a walkable old town. It has a completely different personality from the resort-heavy destinations, and that’s a big part of its charm.
One thing I’ve always appreciated about Puerto Vallarta is how easy it is to enjoy on almost any budget. Yes, there are large all-inclusive resorts in the Hotel Zone and in Nuevo Vallarta, but you can also stay in the Romantic Zone and have dozens of affordable restaurants, cafés, and beach bars within a short walk. It’s one of the few true beach destinations in Mexico where you don’t need to rely on taxis or shuttles — everything feels close.
The beaches themselves aren’t quite as perfect as those in Cancún or Punta Cana, but the overall atmosphere more than makes up for it. I’ve spent a lot of time in Puerto Vallarta over the years, and it remains one of my favorite Mexican cities because it blends beach life with real culture better than anywhere else in the country. For travelers who want great weather and a more authentic experience, PV is a top March choice.

Ambergris Caye, Belize
- March avg high: 79°F/26°C
- March avg low: 74°F/23°C
- March avg precip: 1.9″/4.8cm
Ambergris Caye is Belize’s most famous island getaway, and March is one of the best months to visit — warm, sunny, and usually with very little rain. The island has a relaxed Caribbean vibe, with a small-town feel in San Pedro, sandy streets, and an easygoing pace that’s very different from the big resort areas in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. It’s a great match for travelers who prefer something more intimate and low-key.
The island’s biggest draw is its access to the Belize Barrier Reef, which sits just offshore. Snorkeling trips to Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley are genuinely world-class, and the water visibility in March is usually excellent. I’ve been to Ambergris Caye several times, and it remains one of the best places in the region for affordable snorkeling and diving without needing a long boat ride. The beaches themselves are narrow, but most hotels have docks where you can swim or relax over the water.
Accommodations here range from simple beachfront lodges to polished boutique hotels, and prices in March are still reasonable by Caribbean standards. There aren’t many true all-inclusive resorts — this is more of a “go out for dinner every night” kind of place — but that’s part of the charm. If you want warm weather, great snorkeling, and a very relaxed island atmosphere, Ambergris Caye is one of the best choices in Central America.

Guanacaste, Costa Rica
- March avg high: 96°F/36°C
- March avg low: 71°F/22°C
- March avg precip: 0.2″/0.5cm
Guanacaste is one of the driest and sunniest parts of Costa Rica, and March is right in the middle of its perfect-weather stretch. If you’ve ever visited during the green season, you know how different it feels — but in March, you can count on warm temperatures, blue skies, and almost no rain at all. The beaches here are a mix of calm bays and long Pacific stretches, and the scenery feels more rugged and natural than most Caribbean destinations.
What I’ve always liked about Guanacaste is how easy it is for first-time visitors. The Liberia airport is close to most of the major beach towns, and the region has a wide range of accommodations — everything from big all-inclusive resorts to small boutique hotels. Prices are higher than in Mexico, but still much more reasonable than many parts of the Caribbean, and the quality of the hotels tends to be consistently good. It’s a very comfortable destination where everything works smoothly.
The other big advantage is the number of things to do. You can spend a day at the beach and then take a short trip inland to see waterfalls, volcanic hot springs, or wildlife in one of the nearby national parks. I’ve always found Guanacaste to be a great mix of beach relaxation and easy adventure — warm, dependable weather in March and plenty to do if you want to explore. For many travelers, it’s the ideal introduction to Costa Rica.

Mexico City, Mexico
- March avg high: 78°F/26°C
- March avg low: 49°F/9°C
- March avg precip: 0.4″/1.0cm
Mexico City isn’t a beach destination, but March is one of the very best months of the year to visit — warm days, cool evenings, and none of the summer rain. After spending time here myself, I’m always reminded how much the city surprises first-time visitors. It’s enormous, of course, but the historic center, Roma, Condesa, and Polanco are all walkable, full of character, and packed with excellent food at prices that are almost unbelievable for a major world capital.
One of the biggest advantages of Mexico City is that it offers world-class museums, vibrant neighborhoods, and fantastic cuisine without the price tag you might expect. You can easily eat incredibly well on a modest budget, and hotel prices in March are still very attractive. I’ve found that the city feels much more relaxed and approachable than its reputation suggests — with leafy parks, great cafés, and local markets just a short walk from most hotels.
Mexico City also works perfectly as a base for day trips. Teotihuacan is an easy ride away, and the canals of Xochimilco, Coyoacán, and the Frida Kahlo Museum add even more variety. If you want warm weather in March but prefer culture, food, and affordable city life over beaches, Mexico City is one of the best destinations in the Americas — and far easier to enjoy than many people expect.

Best warm and affordable places to visit in South America in March
If you’re looking for warm weather without the high-season crowds, March is a great time for much of South America. Temperatures are still summery in many cities, hotel rates are reasonable, and you’ll find everything from Caribbean-style beaches to big cultural capitals. We’ll start with one of the easiest and most visitor-friendly choices.
Cartagena, Colombia
- March avg high: 86°F/30°C
- March avg low: 77°F/25°C
- March avg precip: 0.1″/0.3cm
Cartagena is one of the most colorful and atmospheric cities in the Caribbean region, and March is an excellent time to visit — warm, sunny, and before the heavier humidity of late spring. The walled colonial center is one of the most beautiful in the Americas, filled with bright balconies, music in the plazas, and small cafés tucked into centuries-old buildings. It’s a city that feels lively from morning to night without being overwhelming.
One thing I’ve always liked about Cartagena is how easy it is to blend beach time with culture. The beaches in town aren’t the Caribbean’s best, but the offshore islands — especially Isla Barú and the Rosario Islands — offer crystal-clear water that rivals anywhere in the region. Many travelers spend a day or two in the historic center and then head to the islands, and it’s a combination that works extremely well in March. Hotels in the city are also reasonably priced, which makes it a great value overall.
Cartagena does get busy, especially on weekends and around cruise schedules, but it’s still one of the most rewarding warm destinations in South America. I’ve visited multiple times, and the mix of history, food, music, and island excursions is hard to beat. If you want a warm March getaway that offers more than just beaches — but still gives you access to fantastic Caribbean water — Cartagena is one of the best choices on the continent.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- March avg high: 90°F/32°C
- March avg low: 73°F/23°C
- March avg precip: 5.1″/12.8cm
Rio de Janeiro is one of the world’s most visually striking cities — towering mountains, deep blue ocean, beaches that stretch for miles, and neighborhoods tucked between dramatic green peaks. March is still warm and lively, with daytime temperatures perfect for beach time and evenings that feel tropical without being overwhelmingly hot. The city stays energetic after Carnival, and crowds thin out just enough to make sightseeing easier without losing its trademark buzz.
Rio is also a city where you want to plan your days strategically. Mornings are ideal for visiting Christ the Redeemer or taking the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain, when visibility tends to be best. Afternoons are made for Ipanema or Copacabana, grabbing fresh juice from a kiosk, or just people-watching along the promenade. It’s also shoulder season for hotel pricing, so you can usually find better deals in March than in December through February.
Just remember: as stunning as Rio is — and I genuinely think it has the most beautiful natural setting of any city on Earth — you still need to take safety precautions seriously. Stick to well-known areas, use rideshares at night, and avoid showing valuables in public. Do that, and you’ll have one of the most unforgettable urban beach experiences anywhere in the world.

Lima, Peru
- March avg high: 80°F/27°C
- March avg low: 69°F/21°C
- March avg precip: 0.0″/0.0cm
Lima is one of South America’s most underrated big cities — and March is right at the end of its warm, dry season, which makes it a comfortable time to explore the coast. The city’s famous clifftop neighborhoods, especially Miraflores and Barranco, feel great this time of year, with long daylight hours and a steady ocean breeze that keeps the heat in check. You won’t get a classic beach-swim holiday here, but the dramatic Pacific views and long coastal pathways more than make up for it.
What Lima does better than almost anywhere else in the region is food. This is the birthplace of ceviche and home to some of Latin America’s best restaurants, and even budget travelers can eat extremely well. The city is also surprisingly affordable — hotel prices are low by South American capital standards, taxis and Ubers are cheap, and most of the main attractions are clustered close together. It’s an easy place to get great value from your travel budget.
Lima is more of a “big city on the ocean” than a beach destination, and I think that’s the right mindset to bring. If you enjoy coastal walks, excellent food, and a mix of modern and colonial architecture, Lima is a great March choice — especially if you’re pairing it with Cusco or Machu Picchu, which are only a short flight away.

Santiago, Chile
- March avg high: 80°F/27°C
- March avg low: 51°F/11°C
- March avg precip: 0.1″/0.3cm
Santiago is a fantastic March destination because it’s early autumn in Chile — warm, dry, and settled — with long days and just a touch of cooler evening air. The city sits in a huge valley surrounded by the Andes, and on clear days (which are common in March) the views are genuinely spectacular. You don’t come to Santiago for beaches, of course, but the climate this time of year feels perfect for exploring neighborhoods, markets, and parks.
It’s also one of South America’s most organized and livable big cities. The metro is clean and efficient, the food scene is getting better every year, and there’s a nice mix of colonial streets, leafy districts like Providencia, and modern areas filled with cafés and wine bars. And speaking of wine — March is harvest time in the surrounding valleys, so this is an ideal month to take a day trip out to Maipo or Casablanca for tastings.
Santiago does tend to be overlooked compared to places like Buenos Aires or Rio, but I’ve always liked it for its calm, safe feel and great day-trip options. And it’s easy to keep costs under control: hotel prices are reasonable in March, and eating out is very affordable if you stick to local spots. If you want a major city with perfect sightseeing weather and plenty of nearby nature, Santiago is a great pick.

Buenos Aires, Argentina
- March avg high: 84°F/27°C
- March avg low: 63°F/17°C
- March avg precip: 5.3″/13.3cm
Buenos Aires is one of my favorite big cities anywhere, and March is an ideal month to visit. It’s early autumn in Argentina, so the summer humidity has eased off, days are still warm, and evenings are perfect for outdoor cafés and long dinners. BA has that European-meets-Latin-America feel — grand boulevards, old-world cafés, leafy neighborhoods, and a culture that stays up late every night of the week.
What surprises most first-time visitors is how affordable the city is, especially for eating out. You can get a great steak dinner for less than the price of a sandwich in many U.S. cities, and boutique hotels are usually excellent value as well. Buenos Aires isn’t heavy on blockbuster sights, so the city really rewards wandering: Palermo for restaurants and parks, Recoleta for architecture and history, and San Telmo for markets and tango shows.
I’ve always found March to be one of the best months here — warm but not hot, busy but not crowded, and with that unmistakable energy that makes BA such an addictive city. If you want a cultural, food-focused trip that doesn’t destroy your budget, Buenos Aires is easily one of the best choices in South America at this time of year.

Bariloche, Argentina
- March avg high: 66°F/19°C
- March avg low: 39°F/4°C
- March avg precip: 1.0″/2.5cm
Bariloche is one of South America’s great outdoor destinations, and March is right in that sweet spot between the peak summer crowds and the cooler April shoulder season. Days are still warm enough for hiking, lake cruises, and scenic drives, and the early autumn colors usually start showing up on the hillsides. It’s one of those places where you can spend the morning on a trail and the afternoon with a chocolate ice cream overlooking the lake.
The town itself is fairly compact and tourist-focused, but the real magic is outside the center — the Circuito Chico drive, the views from Cerro Campanario, and the hikes around Llao Llao are all spectacular. Bariloche can be pricey in mid-summer, but March usually brings more availability and better rates on hotels and tours. It also avoids the intense January crowds from Argentina and Brazil.
If you love mountains, lakes, and big scenery, Bariloche is an excellent March destination — especially if you pair it with Buenos Aires for a classic Argentina combo. It’s relaxed, scenic, and ideal for travelers who want fresh air and plenty of daylight without dealing with peak-season prices or overcrowding.

Warm and Affordable Places to Visit in Europe in March
Europe isn’t exactly a hot-weather destination in March, but there are a few places where you can get reliably pleasant temperatures, sunshine, and a proper beach holiday feel. Southern Spain and the Canary Islands are the standouts — and for travelers coming from colder climates, they can feel wonderfully spring-like compared to the rest of the continent. Prices are reasonable, crowds are low, and it’s a great time to enjoy Europe without the summer rush.
>>>Best destinations in Europe to go in March
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain
- March avg high: 71°F/22°C
- March avg low: 60°F/16°C
- March avg precip: 1.1″/2.8cm
Tenerife is the classic warm-weather escape for Europeans in March. Temperatures sit comfortably in the low 70s, the beaches are fully usable, and the island has an excellent mix of resorts, easy day trips, and dramatic scenery from volcanic peaks to black-sand coves. I spent almost a month here and found it wonderfully relaxing — even if I also found it a bit boring in the best way. In March, the crowd is mostly northern Europeans chasing the first real sun of the year.
One nice thing about the Canary Islands is that Tenerife isn’t the only option. Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura all offer similarly warm weather, good beaches, and plenty of resorts — so if you find a great flight or hotel deal on another island, you can book with confidence. Tenerife just happens to be the most popular and the easiest to research, which is why it gets most of the attention.
Hotel prices are moderate, beaches are lively but not packed, and the weather is steady — not summer-like, but reliably pleasant. If you want a European beach break in March without long-haul flights, the Canaries are the best bet by far.

Warm and Affordable Places to Visit in Africa & the Middle East in March
March is an excellent month for much of North Africa and the Middle East. Temperatures are warm but not scorching, crowds are lighter than in winter, and prices tend to be far lower than what you’d find in Europe or the Caribbean. Whether you want a cultural deep dive in Morocco, ancient sights in Egypt, or a polished beach holiday on the Red Sea, this part of the world offers outstanding value in March.
Marrakech, Morocco
- March avg high: 72°F/22°C
- March avg low: 49°F/9°C
- March avg precip: 1.5″/3.8cm
Marrakech is warm, lively, and extremely good value in March — easily one of the best choices in North Africa this time of year. Days are reliably sunny, evenings are mild, and the city has that perfect early-spring feel before the real heat sets in. It’s a fantastic month for wandering the souks, exploring the medina, and visiting the palaces and gardens without breaking a sweat.
One thing I always emphasize about Marrakech is how intense it can feel at first. The energy of the old city is nonstop — motorbikes, market stalls, calls to prayer, rooftop cafés, and a thousand little sensory details coming at you at once. But the hotels and riads here are some of the best bargains in the world. You can stay in a beautifully designed riad with a courtyard pool and great service for the price of a basic hotel room in Western Europe.
For beach time, many travelers pair Marrakech with a couple of nights in Essaouira or Agadir, both easy trips with a totally different vibe. But even on its own, Marrakech in March is a great value destination with warm weather, amazing food, and surprisingly affordable hotels.

Cairo, Egypt
- March avg high: 75°F/24°C
- March avg low: 52°F/11°C
- March avg precip: 0.2″/0.5cm
Cairo in March is warm, dry, and far more comfortable than the scorching months that follow — which makes it a great time to finally check the pyramids off your list. The city is huge, chaotic, and overwhelming at times, but the history here is so extraordinary that it’s absolutely worth the effort. Even if you’ve been to other big cities in the region, nothing quite prepares you for seeing the Giza pyramids rise up from the edge of the desert.
That said, Cairo comes with some caveats. The touts at the main sights can be extremely persistent, and the constant offers of “help” or camel rides can get tiring fast. I’ve always found that Giza itself — meaning the neighborhood around the pyramids — is actually the better base. It’s calmer than staying downtown, the hotels have better views, and you can walk to the site early in the morning before the big tour groups arrive.
If you’re the kind of traveler who values world-class sights over easy, polished tourism, Cairo in March is an incredible deal. Hotel prices are among the lowest on the entire list, the weather is ideal, and the combination of the pyramids, the Sphinx, and the soon-to-open Grand Egyptian Museum makes this a destination every traveler should see at least once.

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt
- March average high: 77°F/25°C
- March average low: 61°F/16°C
- March avg precip: 0.0″/0.0cm
Sharm el-Sheikh is one of the easiest warm beach destinations in March — sunny, dry, and reliably pleasant, with none of the extreme summer heat that hits later in the year. This is where Europeans have been coming for decades to escape the cold, and the value here is still almost unbeatable. Even many of the beachfront all-inclusive resorts stay surprisingly affordable, especially compared to similar properties in the Caribbean.
The main draw is the Red Sea itself. The water is calm, clear, and famously rich with colorful fish and coral, so even casual snorkelers can see a ton right off the hotel piers. The beaches vary, but the resort pools and on-site amenities tend to be excellent — and the weather in March is warm enough for full days outside without feeling too hot.
It’s not the most cultural destination, and the vibe is definitely “holiday resort zone,” but if what you want in March is a relaxing warm-weather beach break at a great price, Sharm is hard to beat. It’s also one of the few places where the hotel buffet might have three different kinds of hummus, which is never a bad thing.

Cape Town, South Africa
- March avg high: 78°F/26°C
- March avg low: 58°F/14°C
- March avg precip: 0.8″/2.0cm
Cape Town is one of the world’s great city-beach destinations, and March is arguably the single best month to visit. It’s the tail end of the local summer, so you get warm, dry, sunny days — perfect for hiking Table Mountain, exploring the Cape Peninsula, or relaxing on beaches like Camps Bay and Clifton. The peak tourist crowds have thinned out by March as well, so it feels calmer and better value than during the December holidays.
What really sets Cape Town apart is how much there is to do. You can spend your mornings at coffee shops that rival those in Melbourne, your afternoons touring vineyards in nearby Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, and your evenings at waterfront restaurants watching the sunset. It’s incredibly scenic and surprisingly affordable once you’re there, though long flights from North America can add to the overall cost.
Safety can vary a lot by neighborhood — and it’s important to stick to well-traveled areas and use rideshare at night — but most visitors find Cape Town one of the most memorable trips they’ve ever taken. If you want warm weather, big scenery, and a lot more to do than just sit on a beach, March is the perfect time to go.

Dubai in March is warm, sunny, and just about perfect — it’s right before the heat ramps up, so you get ideal beach weather without the summer extremes. This is one of the easiest destinations in the Middle East for first-timers: modern, efficient, English-friendly, and designed around travelers. And while Dubai has a reputation for being ultra-luxury, it’s actually very doable on a mid-range budget if you know where to look.
One thing I’ve learned from my visits is that Dubai’s dining scene is far more diverse and affordable than people assume. Since around 90% of the population is made up of expats and foreign workers, there are countless neighborhood restaurants serving excellent Indian, Filipino, Lebanese, Pakistani, and Yemeni food for well under US$10 per meal — a huge contrast to the resort-priced waterfront spots. It’s one of the few cities where you can splurge at the Burj Al Arab for lunch one day, and eat incredible biryani in a back-street café the next.
With beaches, giant malls, desert safaris, water parks, and enough attractions to fill a full week, Dubai is an easy warm-weather getaway in March. It’s not the cheapest city in the world, but for weather, convenience, and variety, it’s hard to beat.

Warm & Affordable Destinations in Asia in March
March is one of the very best months of the year for much of Asia — the weather is warm, the skies are clearer than in the summer monsoon months, and prices are still excellent before the Easter and spring-break crowds arrive. It’s also shoulder season in many places, so you get that perfect mix of good weather and low hotel rates.
I’ve spent a lot of time living and traveling around Asia, and the destinations below are some of the most reliable warm-weather bargains in March, from Thailand’s famous beaches to underrated islands in the Philippines and budget-friendly cultural hubs across Southeast Asia.
Phuket, Thailand
- March avg high: 92°F/33°C
- March avg low: 76°F/24°C
- March avg precip: 1.9″/4.8cm
Phuket is Southeast Asia’s most famous beach destination, and March hits that perfect balance of sunny skies and moderate crowds. The sea is calm, the beaches look their best, and it’s a great month for island-hopping or snorkeling trips.
I’ve visited Phuket many times, and the key is choosing the right part of the island for your style: Patong for nightlife, Karon or Kata for something more balanced, or the quieter northern beaches if you want space. It’s also very beginner-friendly — easy transport, English widely spoken, and tons of dining options.
For a classic Southeast Asia beach holiday with no weather surprises, March in Phuket is ideal.

Boracay Island, Philippines
- March average high: 86°F/30°C
- March average low: 76°F/24°C
- March avg precip: 1.8″/4.5cm
March is one of Boracay’s best months, with blue skies, calm seas, and a steady breeze that keeps the heat comfortable. White Beach is the showstopper — a long stretch of powdery sand backed by small cafés, bars, and shops, with no traffic or big highways to spoil the atmosphere.
I spent several weeks here once and loved the “tropical village” feel. It’s incredibly easy to settle in and spend long days walking the shore, taking boat trips, or just relaxing at beach cafés until sunset.
For anyone who wants perfect beach conditions in March, Boracay belongs near the top of the list.

Pokhara, Nepal
- March avg high: 72°F/22°C
- March avg low: 50°F/10°C
- March avg precip: 1.2″/3.0cm
Pokhara isn’t a beach town, but it’s one of Asia’s most relaxing warm-weather destinations in March. The days are sunny and mild, the mountain views often clear, and the lakeside cafés are full of trekkers and long-term travelers lingering for days.
I’ve always thought of Pokhara as Southeast Asia’s “mountain retreat” — laid-back, scenic, inexpensive, and perfect for a slower-paced trip. Even if you aren’t trekking, it’s a wonderful place to relax against a beautiful backdrop.
If you want warm days and a peaceful atmosphere without the beach crowds, Pokhara is a fantastic pick.

Chiang Mai, Thailand
- March avg high: 95°F/35°C
- March avg low: 65°F/18°C
- March avg precip: 0.5″/1.3cm
March in Chiang Mai is warm and mostly dry, and the city is still very pleasant before the hottest months arrive. I lived here for three months and love the relaxed vibe — night markets, temples, cafés, and a pace of life that feels completely different from Bangkok.
The old city is incredibly walkable, and the food scene is one of Southeast Asia’s most distinctive. March is also a great month for day trips into the hills or visiting elephant sanctuaries (the ethical ones, of course).
If you want warm weather with a cultural focus instead of beaches, Chiang Mai is a terrific option.

Goa, India
- March avg high: 90°F/32°C
- March avg low: 74°F/23°C
- March avg precip: 0.0″/0.0cm
March is prime beach weather in Goa — sunny, dry, and warm, with the sea still calm before the heat builds later in spring. The vibe is relaxed and artistic, especially in areas like Anjuna and Vagator where I’ve stayed in the past.
One of Goa’s strengths is how different each beach area feels, from lively stretches with beach shacks and music to quieter, more refined areas further south. Whether you want nightlife or solitude, there’s a good match somewhere along the coast.
March is an excellent time to enjoy Goa before the real heat of April arrives.

Luang Prabang, Laos
- March avg high: 92°F/33°C
- March avg low: 64°F/18°C
- March avg precip: 1.3″/3.3cm
Luang Prabang is one of Asia’s most atmospheric small cities, and March is a beautiful month — warm days, cool evenings, and plenty of sunshine. The riverfront cafés are buzzing, the waterfalls outside town still have good flow, and the nightly market is at its most lively.
The town preserves a rare blend of Buddhist monasteries, French colonial architecture, and incredibly peaceful streets. It’s one of those destinations where people arrive planning two nights and end up staying a week.
For a warm, cultural trip without the chaos of a big city, Luang Prabang is a gem.

Hong Kong warms up nicely by March, which makes it one of the best months for exploring the city’s hills, harbor, and food markets. Nights are comfortable, days are pleasantly warm, and humidity hasn’t taken over yet.
This is the perfect time for long walks along Victoria Harbour, trips up to Victoria Peak, island-hopping ferries, and sampling the city’s phenomenal food scene — from dim sum to high-end restaurants.
If you want a warm-weather urban getaway in March with world-class scenery and dining, Hong Kong is one of Asia’s top choices.

March 2018 US virgin island destination. Any suggestion? Should we avoid to go to any of these islands due to the previous destruction from the hurricane last year? We are thinking to go to St. Thomas.
Jin,
According to the latest update, St. Thomas is still really struggling after the hurricanes and it looks like very few hotels are open now or will be open by March. But most Caribbean islands were untouched. Here is our list of Caribbean islands ranked from cheapest to most expensive. We note which ones are still recovering and which ones were untouched, and I’m sure you’ll get some good ideas on that list. -Roger
I was in Chiang Mai in March and it was beautiful and no burning. You should read about what they are doing now about the burning as the government is moving the dates around and stopping some of the burning for tourists.
Have you not considered The Gambia.
32c – 35c in March.
The cost of living is really cheap.
Dining out for only a few £s a head.
Only 5.5 hours flying tome from London Garwick
Guy,
To be honest I hadn’t considered The Gambia, but I’ve just read that the official travel warnings against going there have been suspended earlier this (2017) year. It looks like an interesting place for those with a big sense of adventure. But I’m seeing no nonstop flights from London and no cheap flights either. Hopefully the country is able to maintain positive momentum in the world travel market. -Roger
Hi – I was in Israel a couple times in March and it was amazing. Fantastic weather, cheap prices, very friendly people, and lots to see, culturally, historically, and geographically. I would definitely recommend. Tel Aviv in March is around 15*C–19*C, Jerusalem is around 16*C, and Eilat is 20-26*C. Eilat doesn’t charge the VAT tax, so shopping and things in general is super cheap in Eilat, plus you have the coral reef and all the great red sea scuba diving and snorkeling there.
Chris,
Thank you for this. I used to have Tel Aviv on some of these lists because the weather is great, but it is more expensive than nearly all the others on the lists, especially for alcohol. But non-drinkers and those with good budget-travel skills can still keep costs reasonable. -Roger
Living in Hong Kong. Can confirm. March rocks.
I think in the middle east Jordan would be an excellent place to visit in March in terms of weather and sites…you should considering adding.
Chiang Mai in March is not the best idea due to burning season dont you think?
Jo,
It really depends on why you are going to Chiang Mai and many people are happy to be there, but you are right that it’s probably worth mentioning in the little blurb so I will add it. Thank you. -Roger
I think it’s a little unfair to say that in Europe, the weather is not great in March.Yes, you can’t go to the beach and sun tan, but many European cities are lovely in spring. In my country, Romania, the weather is perfect in March fro backpack travel, cycling or simply to explore the countryside or the most popular cities.
Larisa,
I know what you mean and I generally prefer to do my city trips in the shoulder seasons as well, particularly in Europe. However, I stand by my claim that the March weather in nearly all of Europe falls short of “great.” I notice that the average highs and lows in Bucharest in March are such that you’d need a substantial jacket or sweater every day, and the average is close to freezing at night. If you consider this “great” then you’ve lived in Europe too long.
These monthly lists are constructed for people who are looking for inexpensive destinations where the weather is better than where they are living. If I included every city that had nights that average slightly above freezing at night in March, the list would have maybe 1,000 entries. That’s why I don’t do it and why it only has 24 entries. But again, I do appreciate the comment and I’ll happily visit Romania in March, even if I don’t consider the weather to be great. -Roger
During March in India, hill stations in southern parts of India are more delighting and refreshing. For beaches, there are many less spoilt beaches in Kerala.
For the Middle East, you can add the Kish Island of Iran in Persian Gulf which has a perfect weather in winter time and the prices are much more reasonable compared to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Kish is a beautiful place for vacation.
