Warm & Affordable Places to Visit in March in Asia
Asia is fantastic in March — warm but not sweltering in most places, dry season across much of Southeast Asia, and still well before the late-spring crowds drive prices up. It’s also one of the best months for reliable beach weather from Thailand to the Philippines, and even cities like Singapore and Hong Kong feel pleasantly mild. Below you’ll find 16 top picks — a mix of big-name cities, famous beaches, and a few quieter places that still offer excellent value.
Bangkok, Thailand
- March avg high: 93°F/34°C
- March avg low: 77°F/25°C
- March avg precip: 1.1″/2.8cm

I lived in Bangkok for three months, and even though it can feel intense at first, you start to appreciate its layers — from early-morning food stalls selling $1 meals to quiet temples tucked behind traffic-choked roads. And despite the heat, evenings are surprisingly enjoyable, with locals gathering along the river and in open-air markets.
Bangkok is also one of the best-value major cities in the world. Hotels, food, and transportation are all inexpensive, and March is comfortably in the dry season. If you want a big, energetic Asian city that’s easy on the budget and overflowing with things to do, Bangkok is an ideal March destination.

Phuket, Thailand
- March avg high: 92°F/33°C
- March avg low: 76°F/24°C
- March avg precip: 1.9″/4.8cm

I’ve always found Phuket to be excellent value in March. Hotel prices are still surprisingly low for what you get — even beachfront places can be shockingly affordable — and the sea is usually calm and perfect for swimming. Patong Beach is the nightlife and shopping hub, but if you prefer something quieter, Karon and Kata are great alternatives just to the south.
The only tricky part of Phuket is traffic, especially around Patong, but if you choose the right base, you can avoid most of it. And for day trips, March is ideal: the Phi Phi Islands, Phang Nga Bay, and the Similan Islands are all running at full speed, and the weather is as reliable as it gets.

Singapore
- March avg high: 88°F/31°C
- March avg low: 77°F/25°C
- March avg precip: 7.6″/19.0cm

This is a destination where hotel prices can run high, but in exchange you get one of the most efficient and well-run cities in the world. Iconic sights like Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Chinatown, and Little India are all easy to explore in a day or two. And Singapore’s food scene is legendary — from hawker centers with $4 meals to high-end restaurants, everything is consistently excellent.
I recently wrote a full Singapore hotels guide, and one thing that surprises many travelers is how many budget and mid-range hotels have windowless rooms — a quirk of the local real estate market. Still, for a safe, clean, and fascinating big city with perfect connectivity to the rest of Asia, Singapore is a great March choice.

Hotels can be pricey, but Hong Kong consistently delivers a big-city experience with great food, great transit, and unique neighborhoods to explore, from Central to Mong Kok to the quieter outlying islands.
March is also a great month for enjoying viewpoints like The Peak or doing light hikes along the Dragon’s Back trail. If you want a blend of big-city energy and outdoor scenery, Hong Kong is a terrific March option.

Boracay Island, Philippines
- March average high: 86°F/30°C
- March average low: 76°F/24°C
- March avg precip: 1.8″/4.5cm

I spent three weeks here and loved the atmosphere: no main roads, just sandy footpaths between beachfront hotels, which makes the island feel like a time capsule from before mass tourism took over other beach destinations.
Hotels are surprisingly affordable in March, and sunsets are some of the best in the world. If you’re after a perfect beach holiday with a laid-back vibe, Boracay is hard to beat.

Even though it’s busy, the city is surprisingly easy to get around with inexpensive taxis and rideshares. And day trips to the Mekong Delta or the Cu Chi tunnels are easy to plan in March thanks to the dry weather.
Prices for hotels and food remain very low. If you enjoy big, vibrant cities and don’t mind a bit of heat, Ho Chi Minh City is a great value in March.

The cooler temperatures also make March a good time to visit nearby Ninh Binh or to take an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay, which can be chilly in winter and sweltering in late spring.
Hotels remain very affordable in March, and the city feels energetic without being overwhelming. If you want a mix of culture, history, and great food at excellent prices, Hanoi is a smart March destination.

Chiang Mai, Thailand
- March avg high: 95°F/35°C
- March avg low: 65°F/18°C
- March avg precip: 0.5″/1.3cm

I lived in Chiang Mai for three months, and while it’s not the most beautiful city at first glance — parts of it are surprisingly plain — the lifestyle is incredibly easy. Cafés, night markets, inexpensive restaurants, and walkable neighborhoods make it a great place to settle in for a week or longer. It’s also a gateway to trekking, cooking classes, and ethical elephant sanctuaries in the surrounding hills.
March remains a good-value month, with very affordable hotels and fewer crowds than in peak season. If you want warm weather, great food, and a gentle pace of life, Chiang Mai can be a very enjoyable March stop — especially for budget travelers.

Goa, India
- March avg high: 90°F/32°C
- March avg low: 74°F/23°C
- March avg precip: 0.0″/0.0cm

I’ve stayed in Vagator and Anjuna, and both offer fantastic sunsets and a relaxed vibe. South Goa is quieter and more nature-focused, while the north has more nightlife and markets.
If you want an easygoing Indian beach destination with great food and affordable hotels, March is a sweet spot in Goa.

Delhi/New Delhi, India
- March avg high: 86°F/24°C
- March avg low: 56°F/8°C
- March avg precip: 0.6″/1.5cm

The city can be chaotic, but the historic sights — from Humayun’s Tomb to Old Delhi’s markets — are extraordinary. And in March, you can explore comfortably without the extremes of heat or monsoon rains.
Hotel prices remain excellent value, and flight connections to the rest of India are easy. If you want the classic India experience in manageable weather, March is a great time.

Mumbai, India
- March avg high: 91°F/33°C

- March avg precip: 0.0″/0.3cm

This is a city of contrasts: colonial-era architecture, Bollywood studios, street food, modern malls, and waterfront promenades all blend together. It’s not a beach destination, but it’s an incredible cultural stop.
Hotel prices stay reasonable in March, and international flight connections are excellent. If you’re curious about India’s biggest and boldest city, March is a perfectly fine time to explore.

Siem Reap, Cambodia
- March avg high: 95°F/35°C
- March avg low: 75°F/24°C
- March avg precip: 1.1″/2.8cm

This is one of the best-value destinations in all of Asia. I’ve often compared Siem Reap to Pokhara or Cusco — places where budget travelers end up staying longer than planned because it’s just so easy and inexpensive. Hotels are incredibly affordable, and even nicer ones with big pools feel like bargains.
If you’re curious about Southeast Asia but want somewhere very manageable, Siem Reap is an excellent March choice — culturally fascinating, inexpensive, and still not too hot to explore comfortably.

Luang Prabang, Laos
- March avg high: 92°F/33°C
- March avg low: 64°F/18°C
- March avg precip: 1.3″/3.3cm

This is not a place filled with big attractions; instead it’s a destination built around atmosphere. You wander along the Mekong, visit temples in the morning, browse the night market, and sit along the water at sunset. It’s the perfect “exhale” stop on a bigger Asian trip.
Hotels and restaurants are excellent value, and March is still well within the comfortable travel window. If you want a slower, more contemplative Southeast Asian experience — and a beautiful setting — Luang Prabang is ideal.

Malé, Maldives

- March avg precip: 2.9″/7.3cm

You can find some excellent deals in March compared to the high season of December–February, especially at mid-range private-island resorts. And the weather is about as reliable as it gets.
If you’ve ever dreamed of the classic Maldives experience without peak-season pricing, March is the time to go.
Maldives water villas, which are known as overwater bungalows elsewhere, start at around US$450 per night, but the best value places are the all-inclusive resorts starting around US$675 per night. I highly recommend Meeru Island Resort which usually has the best deals of the all-inclusive resorts, with huge Jacuzzi water villas at rates similar to much smaller water villas elsewhere.

Colombo, Sri Lanka
- March avg high: 89°F/32°C
- March avg low: 75°F/24°C
- March avg precip: 5.0″/12.5cm

March is also a great month to explore Sri Lanka more broadly — places like Galle, Mirissa, or Ella all have reliable weather.
If you’re flying into Sri Lanka in March, it’s easy to combine a day or two in Colombo with a beach or mountain trip nearby.

Pokhara, Nepal
- March avg high: 72°F/22°C
- March avg low: 50°F/10°C

I’ve often said Pokhara feels like the Siem Reap or Cusco of the Himalayas — backpacker-friendly, inexpensive, and comfortable enough that many travelers end up staying longer than expected.
Hotels and food are very affordable in March, and the trekking routes around the Annapurna region are fully open without being as crowded as April. If you want mountain scenery and a laid-back vibe, Pokhara is an ideal choice.

Final Thoughts on Visiting Asia in March
Asia is one of the world’s best regions for a March trip — the weather is reliably warm from Thailand to Sri Lanka, dry season is still in full swing across most of Southeast Asia, and hotel prices remain far lower than what you’d pay in Europe or the Americas this time of year.
Whether you want Bangkok’s energy, Chiang Mai’s café culture, Boracay’s picture-perfect beaches, or the Maldives’ overwater villas, March gives you the sweet spot between great weather and manageable crowds.
If you’re planning a multi-stop trip, this is also one of the easiest months to combine several destinations: Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos all have ideal conditions, while places like Singapore and Hong Kong are near-perfect city breaks.
And just like in all of my monthly guides, remember that the weather patterns across Asia shift slowly — so if you like these conditions, April is very similar in many of these destinations, though just a bit warmer.
