Recommended Venice hotels that offer good value
As a tourist city for over four centuries, Venice is filled with hotels, both on the main island and in the surrounding area. It can be incredibly frustrating to go through all the listings searching for just the right place for your needs so we’ve done the work for you. Below you’ll find six choices of excellent Venice hotels that are all quite cheap in their categories and are among the highest rated in the city as well.
Many people who visit Venice get tempted to stay on the mainland because hotel rooms are cheaper there, but in doing this they miss the real magic of the city that is only present in the early morning and late evening hours when it’s not filled with day-trippers. These hotels are all on the main Venice island and are all very convenient to all the tourist attractions.
Basically, these hotels all…
- Are well located
- Are very good value in their category
- Receive among the best reviews in their category
We’ve spent many hours going through all the factors to choose the places we’d try to book on our own next trip.
6 Highly recommended Venice, Italy hotels
Note: Hotel “starting at” prices listed below were the cheapest I could find for each hotel, usually for a single room. It’s likely your dates will show higher prices, especially for a double room, but this doesn’t mean it’s not a great deal. Please compare prices you are quoted to prices of similar hotels and you’ll usually find that these are bargains.
Hotel Casa Petrarca Venice – 2*
–High rated cheapie near St. Mark’s Square–
The Hotel Casa Petrarca has only 7 rooms, 5 of which have air-con and private bathrooms and the other 2 only have a fan and they share a bathroom. Specifically those two double rooms with the shared bathroom are amazing value for Venice when they are available. This is a very highly rated hotel from all guests and for all rooms as it’s said to be spotless and comfortable with an extremely friendly and helpful host.
The location very close to St. Mark’s Square puts it in the heart of the tourist district yet with a quiet location, so it’s impossible to beat in its price range. The other rooms cost a bit more but are still great value compared to similar rooms in this location.

Hotel Antiche Figure Venice – 3*
–Classy and cheap 3-star across from train station–
Another one that is very convenient for anyone coming or going by train, the Hotel Antiche Figure is just across the bridge from the main train station so you can be checked in before many of the people on your train even get on a vaporetto to reach their hotel. There is also a vaporetto stop very near the hotel so if you don’t fancy walking too much you can get directly to the main attractions with only a few steps.
The rooms here are large, in both the main hotel and the new annex section just down the block. The breakfast is top-notch as well, and more filling than the coffee and small croissant you get at most hotels in Venice. The fantastic and fluent-in-English staff here are what really sets this place apart, making it one of the very highest rated hotels in Venice in spite of its moderate price.
