6 Highly recommended Venice, Italy hotels

Note: Hotel “starting at” prices listed below were the cheapest I could find for each hotel, usually for a single room. It’s likely your dates will show higher prices, especially for a double room, but this doesn’t mean it’s not a great deal. Please compare prices you are quoted to prices of similar hotels and you’ll usually find that these are bargains.

Hotel Casa Petrarca Venice – 2*

–High rated cheapie near St. Mark’s Square–

The Hotel Casa Petrarca has only 7 rooms, 5 of which have air-con and private bathrooms and the other 2 only have a fan and they share a bathroom. Specifically those two double rooms with the shared bathroom are amazing value for Venice when they are available. This is a very highly rated hotel from all guests and for all rooms as it’s said to be spotless and comfortable with an extremely friendly and helpful host.

The location very close to St. Mark’s Square puts it in the heart of the tourist district yet with a quiet location, so it’s impossible to beat in its price range. The other rooms cost a bit more but are still great value compared to similar rooms in this location.

–Classy and cheap 3-star across from train station–

Another one that is very convenient for anyone coming or going by train, the Hotel Antiche Figure is just across the bridge from the main train station so you can be checked in before many of the people on your train even get on a vaporetto to reach their hotel. There is also a vaporetto stop very near the hotel so if you don’t fancy walking too much you can get directly to the main attractions with only a few steps.

The rooms here are large, in both the main hotel and the new annex section just down the block. The breakfast is top-notch as well, and more filling than the coffee and small croissant you get at most hotels in Venice. 1. Trudi says:

Hi, I was wondering if you know of any reasonably priced Hotels with a balcony and on the canal, have Canal View?

    1. Roger Wade says:

      Trudi,

I haven’t studied all of the canal-view hotels in Venice, but I can tell you that it will be tough to find a hotel with a really nice canal view at a reasonable price. All hotels that face the Grand Canal are quite expensive, and even those that have some rooms with views of the smaller canals, price those accordingly. A canal view means a premium room, especially in the better locations, such as near St. Mark’s Square. All of that said, some deals are better than others, so you can find something nice in even the lower price ranges. But you won’t find a room with a €500/night view that is going for only €200/night. Best of luck with this. -Roger

  2. JUDHAJIT says:

    Hi,
Please suggest decent hotels in Venice under EUR 100.
    Regards
    JJ

    1. Roger Wade says:

      Judhajit,

I created this post exactly for that reason. There are far too many hotels with too many rates depending on dates and how full they are for me to keep track of them all. As long as you find something that gets good reviews in the areas that I recommend, you’ll be fine. -Roger

  3. Sida says:

these prices are completely off from peak season prices. Add at least $100 to the price listed.

    1. Roger Wade says:

      Sida,

Thank you for pointing that out. I will add at least high-season pricing to the hotels on an upcoming update. -Roger
