Internationally speaking, the beach city of Recife isn’t nearly as well known as Rio de Janeiro, but within South America it’s known as a major tropical destination for sun and sand. Its location at the mouth of two rivers and all of the related canals has given it the nickname of the Venice of South America, for better or worse.

Recife is known for having a very tropical climate and in so, is noted for it’s warm to hot temps along with its year round humidity. Don’t let this scare you though as you’ll find near constant trades winds throughout the city that help to cool things down throughout the day.
You’ll find that both January and February carry the title of the warmest months with general temperatures in the 70s and 80s. July, although it has almost the same temps, sees more clouds on a daily basis and is noted as being the wettest month with an average of 15 inches of rain. If you’re not a fan of rain, November is a great month to visit with an average of only 1 and 1/2 inches of rain.
Hotel and hostel prices in Recife are very reasonable by international standards, especially if you visit during the wet season (March through July), but of course the hotels very near the beach will be expensive, especially on weekends.
During the rainy season, April through August, visitors will find that most hotel pries have dropped a bit. If visiting during the other half of the year, you’ll find that prices tend to rise slightly.
