Punta del Este has a reputation as a higher-end beach resort that draws visitors from within Uruguay, but also from Argentina and elsewhere in South America. You might not find many tourists from other parts of the world, even though this is pretty much the best beach resort in the entire region.
During the month of December and the first half of January, this resort town is packed to the rafters with anyone who could afford it. It’s a major party and nightlife scene, and most of it is rather pricey.

Punta del Este is a great destination all year with both mild summers and winters. Summer is ideal with temps in the 70s and 80s. The best months for summer travel are December through March. Generally, visitors will find that the nights cool off allowing for a great nights sleep.
Winter is a bit different with temps in the 50s and 60s requiring many to wear a sweater and sometimes a jacket. When traveling during winter, it’s best to pack layers so you can adjust to each day.

Much of the new development in Punta del Este is new highrise hotels and developments, so of course prices in those areas are going to be very high. You can definitely still find some bargains, at least by international standards, if you look into the older parts of town.
Wintertime (June through August) is the best time to travel to the city if you’re looking for lower prices and few crowds. During the summer, visitors will find that the area is swarmed with tourists and that the hotel prices have skyrocketed, especially late December and early January.
