Negril: Why it might be the best Caribbean destination for you

Lively Negril is considered to be one of the most popular Jamaican destinations year after year. Here you’ll get the opportunity to walk one of the highest rated beaches in the world, swim among marine life, zipline through the canopy, cliff jump and more before partying the night away.

Below are some examples of why Negril just might be the perfect spot for your next vacation.

Negril's 7 mile beach is rated one of the top beaches in the world

Year after year, 7 mile beach is constantly named among the top 10 beaches in the world by several noted travel magazines. Although in truth the beach is only about 4 miles long, it is still easy to see why 7 mile beach is treasured among sun worshippers. With white sand, both clean and warm, palm trees, beach vendors, and more visitors will without a doubt get a taste of the good life.

If you look in the opposite direction of the clear waters, you’ll see there is a wide variety of accommodations that line certain sections of the beach with all-inclusive resorts at one end and family run hotels at the other.

Negril is great for those seeking adventure activities such as cliff jumping and ziplining

Those of you who are more interested in fast paced activities instead of the beach are in luck as Negril is also a great adventure destination with world renowned cliff jumping and some great ziplining tours. There are a few places where people flock to jump with Rick’s Café being the most popular spot.

Less than an hour outside of Negril you’ll find the longest string of ziplines in the entire Caribbean with lines ranging from 250 feet to 1600 feet. If wanted, many tours will include off roading or kayaking into the mix for an added fee.

Negril's many markets are perfect for those who love to bargain

Shopping is considered a past time here with many different types of shops to choose from. The best place to go for a bargain is the Negril Crafts Market. This market is simply a collection of shacks that sell everything you could imagine from jewelry, beads, souvenirs, woodcarvings and so on. Bargaining is expected so get ready to haggle your way through the market. Start off by offering half of the price you’re quoted and then go from there.

If you’re looking for other types of shopping, the Putland Point Market and the Time Square Mall are prefect for a quieter experience.

Negril's reef line offers top notch snorkeling and scuba opportunities

With crystal clear clam waters, Negril’s reef line is the prefect escape for both snorkelers and scuba enthusiasts. Because most of the water off of Negril is considered to be swallow with near constant sun, you’ll find yourself immersed in an underwater world full of life including parrotfish, barjacks, wrasses and more.

If you don’t want to hop in the water straight from the beach, take one of the many glass bottom boats out. You can also get your scuba diving certification on site and there are always plenty of places renting out snorkel and diving equipment at extremely affordable prices.

Negril is home to thriving nightlife

Once the sun sets, Negril’s nightlife comes to life with strong Jamaican culture and offers a great time for adults of all ages. Most clubs and bars tend to play reggae songs throughout the night but from time to time you might also hear a bit of western music.

For a bit of diversity you’ll find that the west end of Negril houses small local bars and clubs while the west end consists of upscale bars coupled with a formal vibe.
