Join Zipcar and get $25 free driving credit
In a deal that is good for travelers or just residents of major cities who prefer not to own a car full time, Zipcar is offering a US$25 credit for new members. This is of personal interest to me since I have lived without a car for long stretches of my adult life, and Zipcar offers a perfect solution for when you need wheels for just a few hours here and there.
In case you aren’t familiar with it, Zipcar has a fleet of modern vehicles in over 50 cities around the world, including 15 major cities in the US and 5 in the UK. For rates starting at around US$6 per hour you can rent a car online (after you are a member) and drive it for only the hours you need it, with all fuel and insurance included.
When I lived in Portland, Oregon I would sometimes rent cars for a weekend from Enterprise, but those rates have doubled in the past few years so Zipcar makes far more sense when I only need to make a Costco or IKEA run.

In most cities the hourly rate is usually higher, but the cost of renting cars or using a car service in those cities is also much higher.
For those who don’t want to spend many hundreds of dollars per month on owning a car, these plans of $25 or $50 per month are a great option for normal errands and so forth. Better still, you also don’t have to worry about paying for parking, since each Zipcar has its own spot, usually in a convenient part of popular residential neighborhoods.
